At Geebung State School, we encourage students to be active, develop new skills and enjoy participating in sport and physical activity.

Through Health and Physical Education lessons, swimming, athletics, representative sport and active play, students are given opportunities to build confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship and a positive attitude towards being active.

Swimming

Our school swimming program runs during Terms 1 and 4 in our on-site heated swimming pool. Prep students participate in swimming during Term 4 only.

For each lesson, students are required to bring:

  • Togs
  • Swim shirt
  • Towel
  • Plastic bag for wet items
  • Swimming cap
  • Goggles, if required

Our annual Swimming Carnival is held in Term 4 for students in Years 4–6.

Athletics

During Term 2, students develop their athletics skills in preparation for our annual School Athletics Carnivals.

All students have the opportunity to participate, with separate carnival days held for our Junior and Senior School.

Students take part in a range of age-appropriate events that encourage participation, skill development and positive sportsmanship.

Health & Physical Education

Health and Physical Education lessons focus on participation, enjoyment, skill development and good sportsmanship.

Our program uses the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) approach, allowing students to develop skills and game awareness through a variety of modified games and activities.

In the early years, there is a strong focus on developing fundamental movement skills. Prep students also participate in a Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) to support the development of their gross motor skills.

Students may also have opportunities to participate in additional physical activity programs, including CrossFit Kids and Jump Rope for Heart.

Representative Sport

Students who demonstrate an interest or ability in particular sports may have the opportunity to nominate for City North District Trials.

Successful students may progress to selection in the Bramble Bay District Team, with further opportunities available to nominate for Metropolitan Regional teams.

We are proud to support students as they challenge themselves and represent Geebung State School beyond the school grounds.

Active Play

Being active extends beyond HPE lessons and organised sport.

A range of sporting equipment and play resources is available for students to enjoy during break times, so there is no need for students to bring sporting equipment from home.

Resources regularly available include:

  • Soccer balls
  • Skipping ropes
  • Hula hoops
  • Large outdoor games
  • Connect 4
  • Chess

These options give students different ways to stay active, play with friends and enjoy their break times.
