Geebung State School is located on the corner of Newman and Ellison Roads in the northern Brisbane suburb of Geebung, approximately 11 kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD.
We provide education for students from Prep to Year 6 and are proud to be part of a welcoming and connected local community.
Guided by our motto, Strive to Achieve, we support students to grow as confident, capable and respectful learners. Our shared expectations — Responsible Geebung Flyers are Safe, Respectful Learners — help shape a positive school culture where students are encouraged to learn, contribute and take pride in their school.
Our History
Geebung State School has been an important part of the local community since opening in 1953.
The school was established during a period of rapid growth in Geebung, when the area was changing from a predominantly farming community into a growing residential suburb. With the local population increasing quickly after World War II, the need for a new primary school became clear.
Geebung State School officially opened on 27 January 1953 with 223 students. Later that year, the school was formally opened on 29 August 1953.
Our original school buildings were designed during an important period in Queensland’s education history and reflect the school architecture of the 1950s. Several of these buildings remain part of the school today, along with the original layout, covered walkways and mature trees that have helped shape the character of our grounds.
As Geebung continued to grow, so did the school. Additional classrooms and facilities were added throughout the 1950s and 1960s to support increasing enrolments. Over time, the grounds also developed to include sporting fields, tennis courts, a swimming pool, play spaces and other facilities for students.
Community has always been at the heart of Geebung State School. School fetes and fundraising activities began in the school’s very first year, and generations of families have continued to contribute to the life of the school ever since. In 2003, the school’s Golden Jubilee was celebrated with a commemorative monument near the Newman Road entrance.
Today, Geebung State School continues to operate from its original site, proudly combining its history and heritage with contemporary teaching, learning and facilities.
Our history is an important part of who we are today. While Geebung State School has grown and changed over the years, our focus remains the same — providing a supportive learning environment where students are known, valued and encouraged to achieve their best.
